Amish Furniture Abundant in Ohio

There was a time when people would flock to North Carolina for furniture, but now they flock to Ohio.  Holmes County and the surrounding area is home to the World's Largest Amish Community.  Years ago farming may have been prevalent but today it is Amish-made furniture.  From wholesale to retail there are many furniture makers in the Amish Community.  Many of these Amish furniture stores will customize exactly what you are looking for and they don't charge astronomical prices for doing so.  You definitely need to shop around because prices vary dramatically from the furniture stores on State Routes vs. Township Roads.  Garden Gate Get-A-Way Bed & Breakfast will even map out an itinerary of several Amish furniture stores for their guests to go shopping.  B&B guests have purchased and shipped furniture to Michigan, Florida, California and more!  The quality and style is not to be beat any where.   The cabinets and beds in Cottages at Garden Gate Get-A-Way were all built locally in Holmes County.

Antique Shopping in Ohio Amish Country

Holmes County Amish Country consists of several small  towns and each town is known for something different.  Millersburg and Winesburg are probably the 2 most popular for antique shoppers.  Almost every town has at least 1 antique mall or shop.  Serious antique people seem to flock to Hershbergers Antique Mall on State Route 557 south of Charm and before Farmerstown.  It is an Amish-owned business that really knows the value of a good antique.  They have many items on display in the dining room on the 2nd level of Walnut Creek Cheese too.  When shopping in Berlin, Ohio for antiques you need to watch because many places that use the word "antique" are more collectible items vs. antiques.  The owners at Garden Gate Get-A-Way Bed & Breakfast will map out directions for their guests to find antique shops and malls.   The Calendar of Events on the B&B website will advise future guests of when there are Antique Festivals and Shows in the area.  Come and visit Holmes County and you will see that there is more than Amish in Amish Country!

Ohio Wine even in Amish Country

As time goes by more and more wineries and wine-tasting showrooms are popping up around Holmes, Tuscarawas, and Wayne Counties.  Heini's Gourmet Market in Sugarcreek has a huge selection of Ohio wines besides many foods made in Ohio.  Gateway Place near Wilmot carries many Ohio wines and you can do wine tasting.  Although Breitenbach Winery is Ohio's 2nd largest winery they had better keep an eye on Raven's Glenn Winery that could easily pass them up in the ranks because of their great wines and fabulous customer service.  Winery at Perennial Vineyards is in an old dairy barn and their dry wines are especially appealing when many area wineries specialize in sweeter, dessert wine.
Garden Gate Get-A-Way B&B is doing Wine Tasting Dinner Weekends from September 2009  to  May 2010.  Visit their website for details and pricing.  This is your chance to do some wine tasting, tour a winery and have a 5 course dinner that includes 5 wines.
