Ohio Hotel & Lodging Association added a new award this year at their annual conference and Stars of the Industry banquet. The award was Bed and Breakfast of the Year. In past years all of the awards were given to Hotel General Managers, Supervisors, Servers, and other hotel staff. The applicants for Bed and Breakfast of the Year had to complete an application and submit three guest reviews that explained what set their lodging establishment apart from others. The names of the B&B’s and locations were removed when the application and reviews were given to an impartial group of judges. The 3 finalists for Bed & Breakfast of the Year were 1830 Hallauer House Bed & Breakfast, The Victorian Lady Bed & Breakfast, and Garden Gate Get-A-Way Bed & Breakfast. The award went to Garden Gate Get-A-Way Bed & Breakfast of Millersburg, Ohio. They are located in Holmes County in the middle of the largest Amish Community in the World. “This is such an honor to be the 1st bed and breakfast to receive this award and to be rewarded for all of our hard work”, said Carol Steffey, owner of Garden Gate Get-A-Way Bed & Breakfast. The award was presented by Matthew MacLaren, Executive Director of OH & LA and Howard Nusbaum, American Resort Development Association President and Chief Executive Officer on November 22, 2010 at the Hilton Columbus at Easton.
