Ohio Cheese abounds in Holmes County Ohio

It is no surprise that Ohio Cheese can be found in Holmes County Ohio which is known to many as the world's largest Amish community.  The Swiss cheese-making traditions brought to this country through the years have resulted in several cheese factories in Holmes County and the surrounding area.  In the Berlin area you will want to visit Heinis Cheese Chalet where you can sample 50 kinds of cheese and take cheese-making tours.  In the Charm area Swiss cheese lovers will flock to Guggisberg Cheese which has won numerous awards for their famous Baby Swiss.  For a really great treat stop in across the street at Chalet in the Valley Restaurant and try the cheese fondue made with the Baby Swiss.  In Walnut Creek be sure to stop at Walnut Creek Cheese.   This is truly an experience because in addition to delicious cheeses you will find bulk foods, ice cream parlor, meats, deli, Uncle Mikes Beef Sticks, a bakery, a jam, jelly & granola factory and a kitchen gadgets store.  They also have a small store in Berlin.  In the Sugarcreek area you will find Broad Run Cheese house which was established in 1933.  In recent years they began producing wine to pair with their cheese.  In the town of Baltic is Steiner Cheese factory which is the oldest cheese factory in the Country. Head south of Baltic to Pearl.  About the only business you will find there is Pearl Valley Cheese but well worth the trip.  No matter what kind of cheese you like you will find it in Holmes County Ohio.  Besides the traditional cheddar, Swiss, and marble cheeses, you will find green moon cheese, jalapeno cheese, chocolate fudge cheese, and many, many more flavors.  The innkeepers at Garden Gate Get-A-Way Bed & Breakfast map out itineraries for their guests to visit cheese factories and wineries too.  So when you want to experience Holmes County or Ohio Cheese be sure to book at stay at Garden Gate Get-A-Way Bed & Breakfast.

Amish Country Tours Offer So Much More

When guests ask one Ohio bed and breakfast owner about ways to experience Holmes County Amish Country, one of the answers always includes Amish Country Tours.  Although guests can drive the back roads and see Amish furniture stores, quilt shops, candle makers, etc., they don't understand the history and culture completely without taking escorted Amish Country Tours.   In spring 2010 tourists to Ohio Amish Country can take a short tour that will teach them about the history of the Mennonite and Amish community and understand how they live today in Holmes County.  Yet another tour includes progressive meals with many visits to Amish-owned businesses to shop and experience the lifestyle.  Yet another tour ventures away from the Amish community and takes guests on Ohio's 1st State Road!  You will travel the path of early settlers and make a few stops along the way and then end your day with dinner at a former Stagecoach stop.  If you are confused about what kind of tour might be right for you be sure to talk with your bed and breakfast staff to help you pick out the right length tour with the kinds of places you would like to see.  At Garden Gate Get-A-Way Bed & Breakfast, your innkeepers will package your tours with an overnight stay to make one-stop-shopping for you!
