The "Don't Miss" Attraction on your Amish Country Vacation in Ohio

Garden Gate Get-A-Way Bed & Breakfast near Berlin, Ohio, tells their guests that there is one tourist attraction that they don't want to miss on their Amish Country Vacation in Ohio.  The attraction is Warthers Museum.  This is one of the most hard to describe attractions because if you just tell people that it is a museum with carvings of trains most of them have no interest in going.  "You just have to go" is what Herb & Carol Steffey tell their bed and breakfast guests.  This attraction is on the homestead of Ernest Mooney Warther who was deemed a World Master Carver.   The most amazing part, especially when you tour the museum and see what this man did in his lifetime, is that he only had a 2nd grade education.  This great attraction just got better as of April 1, 2010.  The home where Warther raised his family is on the same property as the museum.  The home has been opened up for tours.  When you purchase a ticket you get to tour the home, his wife's button collection, and the actual museum.  "The first time I toured the museum I was more impressed with the canes that Mooney Warther carved and the stories behind them than I was his trains", said Carol Steffey, owner of Garden Gate Get-A-Way Bed & Breakfast.  When you tour the museum you will see things that Warther invented and be mesmerized when you learn that if there were 12,000 pieces in a train that he carved each piece and put the train together without any artificial materials.  The family trade is knife making and at the end of the museum tour you can see the knife factory through a glass viewing gallery.  The knives are a great souvenir and are guaranteed for life.  When you need them sharpened they will do so at no charge and it is a good excuse to tour the museum again!  Some of the bed and breakfast guests remember visiting Warthers many years ago and talk of the pliers that Warther carved.  We don't want to "let the cat out of the bag" so you will just have to go there to see what the pliers are all about.  Don't miss this attraction when you visit Amish Country on your vacation in Ohio this summer.

Ohio Weekend Getaways in Amish Country include Special Events

This weekend, June 25-26, 2010, is the time to come for Ohio weekend getaways in Amish Country.  There are so many special things happening!  On June 25th the vendors in Walnut Creek are going to have special sales and events called Summer in the Village.  One place not to miss is Coblentz Chocolate Company.   They want to highlight their ice cream toppings so they are having an old fashioned Ice Cream Social.  On June 26th, swing over to Mt. Hope for the 17th Annual Red Cross Benefit Auction.  There are usually several items made by the Amish up for auction.  Take time on Saturday to visit Guggisberg Cheese in Charm.  They are celebrating their 60th anniversary and you have got to try their famous Baby Swiss.  Another event on the same day is the Mt. Eaton Firemen's Festival.  That would be a great place for dinner on Saturday.  If you like dinner theaters you will find a Grand Ol Jamboree in Wilmot that combines Country music and humor.  There are so many things going on it will be hard to choose what to do.

Bed and Breakfast Recipes Can Tantalize Your Tastebuds

A visit to a B&B usually leaves one hoping to get their hands on some bed and breakfast recipes.  Innkeepers seem to find just the right ingredients and spices to make something taste a little better.  Many use locally produced ingredients.  This is true in Ohio Amish Country.  Garden Gate Get-A-Way Bed & Breakfast makes Amish Granola Bread, Amish Granola Muffins, Fresh Apple Coffeecake and more recipes that include ingredients that were purchased and/or grown locally.   Some bed and breakfasts have a cookbook published but if they don't just ask for your favorite recipe and your innkeeper is most likely to share it with you.
