Amish Beer Fest in Ohio

Have you ever run across an Amish beer fest?  We hope not.  Many people assume that the Amish community won’t consume alcoholic beverages but that is a myth.  When traveling through Ohio Amish Country a tourist may find beer cans and beer boxes strewn along side the road.  They most likely got there from teenagers.  The Amish young adults, just like everyone else, will go out on a Friday or Saturday night with friends.  Those that are not of age to drink beer will get an older friend to buy for them just like everyone else.  Stories have been shared that if an Amish young adult gets so drunk that he passes out in the buggy that the horse will go home and the young man wakes in the morning in his own yard.  You won’t find an Amish beer festival when visiting an Amish community but remember that the Amish are “people” just like the rest of us and some do drink.   To visit the world's largest Amish Community go to Holmes County, Ohio and visit Millersburg, Berlin, Walnut Creek, Charm, Mt. Hope and the surrounding area.
