Amish Leave Ohio in Mating Season

True Story: A tourist is driving through Holmes County, Ohio (where the world’s largest Amish community exists) looking too see the Amish.  They see an Amish man walking down the road.  They pull over, roll down the window, and ask, “Where do we go to see the Amish?”.  Keep in mind that they are talking to an Amish person.  The Amish man answers, “You’ve missed them…It’s mating season and they are all inside right now”.
This question is a common question in Holmes County and gives the locals a good laugh.  The visitor to Holmes County needs to remember that “Amish” is not only a lifestyle but a religion.  You don’t go to Cleveland or Columbus and ask someone “Where are the Catholics?” because any number of people that you encounter could be Catholic.  Unlike animals in a zoo they are not caged and put on display for the tourists.  Thus the next time you visit Holmes County keep in mind the 40,000 Amish in the area are everywhere.
