Ohio Bed & Breakfast Give Back to Veterans

Veterans Honored at Ohio Bed and Breakfast.  It’s not often that we hear a story that warms our hearts but this is one.  Three years ago a West Virginia bed and breakfast owner decided to honor Veterans by offering a free guest room the night before Veterans Day.  In 2010 over 900 bed and breakfasts in 49 states jumped on the band wagon.  Garden Gate Get-A-Way Bed & Breakfast in Ohio had a heart wrenching story.  They decided to give all five of their guest rooms away to Veterans.  A day or two before the Vets arrived one of them called and said that they had to cancel.  This couple had experienced a horrible year.  Their house burned down and they were living with their son, one of them had cancer, and the other had knee surgery.  They were now calling to say that their brother died in Arkansas and they had to leave for a funeral and miss out on their free room.  Carol Steffey, the owner at Garden Gate Get-A-Way Bed & Breakfast, could not sleep when thinking about all that this couple had been through.   She sent the couple an email telling them that she would offer a free night before the end of the year.  The couple did come and were so thankful.  “Some times people just need a break and I was happy to give away another room”, said Carol Steffey.  The bed and breakfast was able to fill the empty room to another Veteran and really enjoyed their time with guests from the Army and Air Force both retired and active military.  If you know of a special Veteran watch the news, Internet, etc., because this program is likely to continue in 2011.
