Remember when you were a kid? Dad worked 40 hours, Mom stayed home, and in the evening, or weekends, you had “family time”. You played board games, ran around the back yard playing Tag, went to Grandma’s house for dinner on Sunday, and visited with neighbors on the front porch. Our world is so busy today that families don’t get together today, they communicate by Facebook, and no more Sunday dinners at Grandma’s house. There is one place that you can visit to return to those times. Amish Country in Ohio still lives at that pace. Fathers work 40 hours and go home to their families. Mothers stay home and take care of their families. Kids are still kids and play outdoors. They have friends and communicate without electronics or electricity. After dinner families will throw a ball in the yard, play softball, play a game, or sit on a porch and visit. Every Sunday all businesses are closed to honor God and spend time with family. It is refreshing to find a community where family and God come before making money. Some people think that the Amish are missing out by not having electric and computers and television, but they seem to have something special that the rest of the world is missing….time with family. Visit Holmes County Amish Country in Ohio for a taste of this life.
