Berlin Ohio Bed and Breakfast Suggests Tis The Season Christmas Shoppe

There is one place in Amish Country Ohio where you will always find Christmas, Tis the Season Christmas Shoppe.  It is located on State Route 39 in Berlin, Ohio.  There are 3 floors of everything for your holiday decorating.  The main floor reminds you of walking through a Christmas village.  There are a lot of little rooms with decorated trees, table top decorations, and every kind of ornament that you can imagine.  The 2nd story loft overlooks the main floor.  It has several rooms each with a different theme.  The lower level hosts Christmas trees from 2' to 12' tall and every kind of light imaginable.  They host special events throughout the year.  Just before Christmas 2012 you can participate in 'Christmas Down on the Farm' on December 1st.   On December 8th someone from the Steinbach family will be at the store to sign nutcrackers made by their family.  Tis the Season is located in a little "village" of shoppes including an antique mall, craft mall, kitchen gadgets store, and more!  When you visit the area be sure to stay at our Berlin, Ohio bed and breakfast and we'll be happy to map out directions to Tis the Season and other area attractions.

Escorted Wine Tasting Weekends in Ohio are Great Fun

Ask anyone who has participated in the wine tasting weekends package at Garden Gate Get-A-Way Bed & Breakfast what it's like and they'll most likely say, "tons of fun".  One of the best features is that this is an escorted tour on a tour bus owned by the bed and breakfast so you don't have to worry about drinking and driving.  The innkeepers plan different itineraries and menus every year and as a result there are many repeat guests on the tours.  The stops have been carefully selected to insure that guests are treated well and have a great time tasting the area wines.  The dinner stop is always at Ravens Glenn Winery where guests are treated to a winery tour, a wine tasting, and a fabulous dinner with several courses and wine to go with each course.  For more information on this Ohio Amish Country getaway you may visit their website or call 330-674-7608.  The first 2013 wine tasting weekend is January 25th-27th.

Winter Weather is Perfect to Getaway in Ohio for a Romantic Weekend

When winter weather sets in we think of a warm, cozy place with a fireplace, maybe soaking in a hot Jacuzzi tub, and cuddling with our sweethearts.  If you are looking for a getaway in Ohio for a Romantic weekend then look no further.  Cottages at Garden Gate Get-A-Way opened in October 2009 and they offer all of the amenities for a romantic weekend except the people.  You'll feel the luxury with the Amish-made bed and cabinets, the soft bathrobes, and special bath amenities.  The peninsula fireplace can be seen from the bed, loveseat, or kitchenette.  The Roman-style Jacuzzi tub is plenty big enough for two.  You don't even have to go out for breakfast because the innkeepers will deliver a hot plated breakfast to your cottage door.  If you do want to get out and explore these cottages are located in the middle of Holmes County Amish Country.  Ask about the Winter Special when you call.

Troyer's Genuine Trail Bologna Celebrates 100 Years Says Ohio Bed and Breakfast

There are many tourist attractions near our Ohio bed and breakfast but one of them just turned 100 years old.  That business would be Troyer's Genuine Trail Bologna.  The actual inventer of this famous bologna was actually someone named Absolom Weiss.  He sold his meat market and bologna business to Michael Troyer in 1912 and it has been in the Troyer family since.  Before the modern conveniences we live with today, this ring bologna was processed by hand vs. machine and blocks of ice kept the refrigeration in the factory/store, not a refrigerator.  Meats were manually smoked and packaging was processed by hand as recently as 5 years ago.    Every week this company produces 25,000 pounds of Troyer's Genuine Trail Bologna and as much as 50,000 pounds per week over the holiday season.  Today it is still smoked over hickory wood much the way it was years ago.  Many people think that the name came from the town of Trail where the factory is located.  It was actually called Trail Bologna because it was portable meat that didn't require refrigeration for quite some time.   Many of the restaurants in Holmes County, Ohio serve Trail Bologna & Swiss sandwiches using this popular product.  The bulk food stores and meat markets in the area sell this Trail Bologna but you can still purchase it in Trail next to the factory at a General Store.  The next time you visit Amish Country you will have to try some for yourself.

Eat at Bags Sports Pub on your Ohio Amish Country Getaway

On your next Ohio Amish Country Getaway check out Bags Sports Pub for a meal.  While this Millersburg restaurant is not a "traditional Amish-style restaurant" the food is out of this world.  On the dinner menu some of the popular items are the steak dinners and BBQ ribs.  This innkeeper is crazy for their Broiled Salmon dinner.  If you are looking for something lighter they have some awesome soups, entree salads, and wraps.  If you are lucky enough to catch a night when they make Lobster Bisque you will want to have nothing but that for your meal.  If you like fish their Grouper Wrap has lots of great flavors in it.  If you love a burger then try one on a pretzel bun with some of Bag's homemade potato chips to accompany it.  They have a nice variety of appetizers to choose from as well as over 100 different kinds of beer to wash them down.  You won't be disappointed with your meal at Bags Sports Pub.  They are one of the few restaurants that are open on Sundays.
