Amish Country Ohio Bed and Breakfast Shares About New Attraction

At our Amish Country, Ohio bed and breakfast we are continually looking for new things for our guests to do.  We've hit the jackpot this time!  In 2013 a new museum will be opening, David Warther Carvings.  About 10 years ago when we first moved to the area, David Warther, grandson of master carver Mooney Warther, had a small museum in Sugarcreek.  One day it disappeared and we didn't know why.  David Warther has been busy completing his collection of carvings.  If you have ever been to Warther Museum in Dover you know that his grandfather carved locomotives.  David's talent lies in carving ships and they are amazing!  Some of the model ships are from the time period 3000BC and the time line continues to Christopher Columbus' ships and on to ships from the early 1900's.  Pictures don't do these carvings justice.  The intricate details can only be seen up close or through a magnifying glass.  At our bed and breakfast we cannot wait for this treasure to open.  We plan on offering some escorted tours on our tour bus and include this museum as a stop.  Stay posted to our Calendar of Events for details.

Can You Eat Healthy on your Ohio Amish Country Getaway?

More often than ever bed and breakfast guests are asking where to eat healthy on their Ohio Amish Country getaway.  This is the generation of the Dr. Oz television show where we are taught about eating healthier, getting the right vitamins, and avoiding fat and sugar.  If you have ever visited Ohio Amish Country you know that you will find lots of bakeries, restaurants that serve fried chicken and noodles over mashed potatoes, and specialty items such as Trail Bologna.  These are places you will never hear about on the Dr. Oz Show.
Here are a few pointers for eating healthier:
LUNCH
Rebecca's Bistro in Walnut Creek is open for lunch every day but Sunday.  They offer quiche, entree salads, homemade soups, and wraps.
Bags Sports Pub in Millersburg has some awesome entree salads for a leaner lunch.
DINNER
Mrs. Yoder's Kitchen
It may not be on the regular menu but you can almost always get Terryaki Salmon with broccoli for a side dish.
Bags Sports Pub in Millersburg also has a great Broiled Salmon Dinner, entree salads, and some lighter options on the menu.
SNACKS
Visit Nature's Food Market on US62 in Berlin.  This health food store not only carries every kind of vitamin, gluten-free foods, whole grains, etc., but you can purchase some chips and snacks to take back to your guest room that are much healthier than a Fry Pie or Cinnamon Roll.
New Horizons Naturals on SR83 in Millersburg, across from Walmart, is much smaller than Nature's Food Market but they do have some healthy snacks available as well.
Some people want to "splurge" on vacation and worry about the calories when they get back home, but if you want to eat healthier then check out the above options.

Ohio Bed and Breakfast Recommends Pine Tree Barn

If you ask the owners of this Ohio bed and breakfast, the closest thing to the North Pole we have in Ohio is Pine Tree Barn.  When you approach this store in Shreve you will see the massive Christmas Tree Farm.  You can take a horse-drawn wagon ride out to the various fields of trees and cut down your own Christmas tree.  They also sell pre-cut trees, roping, and wreaths.  When you step inside Pine Tree Barn you will discover that you are in an old barn which dates back to 1868.  It has been restored and offers gifts, upscale furniture, home furnishings, Olde World Christmas ornaments, Christmas decorations, and a gourmet restaurant overlooking the Christmas tree farm and lake.  If you are visiting on the weekends this store is open on Sunday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.  The rest of the week they are open 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.  They are located just outside Holmes County Amish Country so there are many other activities in the area.

Berlin Ohio Lodging Says "Wear Your Pajamas"

There is one weekend a year that tourists are recommended to wear their pajamas to shop according to a Berlin, Ohio lodging establishment.  It is the annual Pajama Party that was started by Country Craft Cupboard on Main Street.   Berlin shops open at 6 a.m. for this event and it continues to 9 a.m.   During those hours you can save 40% on select merchandise under 1 condition: you must be wearing your pajamas.  The 2013 date is January 26th.  They even have bouncers at the doors for those who show up without their PJs.  When the Pajama Party hours are over you can save 20% the rest of the day at Country Craft Cupboard and other shops also offer discounts throughout day.  It's cold and it's early so the shopkeepers take care of you with hot coffee and refreshments.   You will find women with curlers in their hair, big fuzzy slippers, and more.  This is also the weekend of the Wine & Dine wine tasting package at Garden Gate Get-A-Way Bed & Breakfast.  It starts Saturday afternoon so you will still have time to take part in the Pajama Party and still do the wine tour.  It just goes to show you how fun Winter in Amish Country can be!

Contrary to what many think, they do plow the roads in Ohio Amish Country.  We have State, County and Township crews out plowing the roads when it snows so tourists need not worry.  If it snows while you are sleeping, by the time you finish eating breakfast at your B&B the roads will be plowed.   Many cancel policies are  also relaxed during the Winter months so that if you have a snow storm where you live and have to cancel at the last minute due to weather you won't be penalized.

Visit The Wilderness Center for Bird Watching in Ohio

Take an Ohio Amish Country Tour When You Visit Holmes County

If you really want to experience Holmes Country and the local culture then be sure to take an Ohio Amish Country Tour on your next visit.  Garden Gate Get-A-Way Bed & Breakfast is the first bed and breakfast in the State to purchase their own tour bus and they offer tours for guests that stay with them for an additional fee.  You can choose from 2-hour or 4-hour Amish Country tours.  Each tour will explain how the Amish live in Church Communities and what that means, talk about their education, their weddings, their funerals, and how they live and work without electricity.  Each tour makes stops at Amish-owned businesses offering guests a chance to do some shopping.  A recent guest from Elyria said, "I've been coming to this area and taking tours for years but I learned more from you than any other tour I've taken".  While your tour guide has a specific itinerary planned out for 2 or 4 hours, they will make stops at Amish businesses of interest to you whenever possible.  For more information you can contact this Ohio bed and breakfast.
