Hikers Love Rail To Trails in Holmes County Ohio

If you like to hike or ride a bike you will want to visit the Rails To Trails path in Holmes County, Ohio.  This is part of the national trail where old railroad tracks were removed and hiking paths were put in their place.  Holmes County has the first trail in the USA to build a lane for Amish buggies.  Most of the trail has been paved so you can easily walk, run, horseback ride, or accommodate a wheelchair.  Along the trail you will see many birds, a variety of trees plus wildflowers.  In the Killbuck area is the Killbuck Marsh.  Turtles are often discovered sunning themselves on logs in the water.  There are two observation decks with benches to take a rest.  One deck is near Holmesville and the other by Millersburg.  Leave the stress of the big city behind when you inhale the tranquil setting on the Rails to Trails path.
Each year in June there is a benefit auction to raise funds to pave more of the trail until eventually all 29 miles will be paved.  The 2013 benefit auction is Saturday, June 8, 2013.  The auction includes quilts, Amish-made furniture, tools, outdoor items, and more.  In addition there is a 5K run, a chicken BBQ and bake sale.
