Beer Tasting is something new in Ohio Amish Country

If you visited Ohio Amish Country ten years ago you probably couldn't find a place to buy a beer let alone participate in a beer tasting.  Things have changed!  When you cruise along State Route 39 you will find more than gift shops and cheese factories.
In Millersburg, Ohio is the Millersburg Brewing Company.  It is located in an historical building right on Main Street and serves at least eight homemade brews.  The beers are named after local places such as Lot 21, named after the first settlement in Millersburg.  Since customers range from novices to "beer snobs" they have produced various beers with special ingredients.  If you visit with a non-beer-drinker you will be pleased to see that they offer wine tasting as well.  They do not currently have a food license but they are located next to Bags Sports Pub and allow patrons to bring food over from the pub.
In the Sugarcreek area is Heini's Gourmet Market.  They offer cheese, spices, and various foods made in Ohio.  In addition they have a wine tasting bar and a beer tasting bar.  Their beer selections include beers from Ohio but also as far away as the Hofbr√§uhaus in Germany.
Garden Gate Get-A-Way Bed & Breakfast owns a tour bus and on the 4th Saturday of every month they offer the "Brewery Bus".  They take guests out for four hours to the two establishments listed above and let them go beer tasting.  The $15 per person cost provides the transporation/designated driver.  All tasting and food is at the expense of the B&B guest.
In addition to the places mentioned there are places to purchase beer and take it back to your bed and breakfast to enjoy in the evening.  You probably won't find the Amish in these places but you can enjoy beer while visiting Amish Country.
